Laid in is a lengthy, (2 page; 85 line) gossipy typed letter, with a typed signature, "Mickey", to a good friend, relating her experiences 4 months into her trip to Africa. Penge, Avalubi, July 10, 1931. She writes in her typical humorous style of her pet baboon, who is so closely entwined that "sometimes by mistake she plays the typewriter & I scratch. Life grows more exciting and literary day by day. We've had leopards & elephants, and huge crocodiles full of teeth, one of which was spotted in my particular bathing pool, so now I take baths at home." She writes of people who "are never able to speak any of the native languages and call all negroes 'Boy'".
